Our AI initiative is coordinated by the Chalmers AI Research Centre (CHAIR), which was established in January 2019 through a 300 million SEK investment by the Chalmers University of Technology Foundation.
As a part of this initiative, Chalmers is now recruiting an Assistant Professor within AI / Machine Learning for Autonomous Systems.
The position is funded by Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP), Sweden’s largest individual research program ever.
WASP provides a platform for academic research and education, fostering interaction with Sweden’s leading technology companies.
WASP has the ambition to strengthen and develop Sweden’s knowledge and competence in the areas of AI, in particular machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL), through an international recruitment program to attract new talent to Sweden.
The position of interest includes different areas of and related to AI / ML / DL including AI foundations, data science, visualisation, information systems, software engineering and computer science, or applied areas, preferable related to prioritized area at Chalmers and CHAIR : Transport, Life Science and Health, Automation and Internet of Things.
You are expected to build your own research excellence, and have active collaboration with researchers at Chalmers, in particular in the CHAIR environment.
As an AI researcher you will :
Your time will be divided in the following way :
80% as researcher including performing and leading research projects, serving the research community, and professional development activities for your academic career.
20% for teaching duties
Included in the position is a starting package with PhD student(s) / postdoc(s) according to the agreement with WASP and your requests.
Your host department will be decided by your research background and preference. Example of departments of interest : Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematical Sciences, but not limited to those.
The appointment as Assistant Professor is a four-year, entry-level, faculty position with tenure track, whereby the employee has the opportunity to acquire both pedagogical and scientific qualifications.
An Assistant Professor is expected to improve their ability to formulate and solve scientific problems, to publish scientific articles, and to develop their skills in teaching and supervision, by means of both practical training and independent study.
The aim is to achieve the level of Associate Professor within four years and, if successful, the employee will be offered a permanent faculty position at Chalmers.
To qualify for the position of Assistant Professor, you must have a doctoral degree in a relevant field, and the degree should not be older than seven years, unless due to parental leave, military service or similar.
You are expected to have some experience with teaching, and to demonstrate good potential to excel within research and education.

The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English, as all of our Masters programs are taught in English.
